Beautiful areas of the Peak District - Baslow Village and Chatsworth House

An attractive village at the northern end of Chatsworth Park surrounded by magnificent countryside. Set beneath its’ gritstone edge, Baslow is an attractive place with some very fine houses. Baslow is made up of 5 “Ends”, Far, Nether, Bridge, West and Over Ends. The pretty Goose Green is at Nether End, where a narrow packhorse bridge leads the way to Chatsworth House. At Bridge End the attractive 17th century bridge has a small tollhouse and the nearby church of St Anne is on the east bank of the river Derwent.

There are plenty of things to do in Baslow and the pretty village (especially the Nether End) and the nearby Chatsworth estate attracts many walkers and cyclists. Climbers are also attracted to the area because nearby is the limestone ridge Froggatt Edge which offers lovely views over the Derwent Valley.

Baslow is a gateway to the famous and very popular visitor’s attraction Chatsworth House. Known as one of the wonders of the Peak, Chatsworth House in Derbyshire and the Peak District is the home of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire. Chatsworth house and gardens have attracted visitors, from all over the world, for many generations. Building of Chatsworth house was begun in 1552 by Bess of Hardwick and is the current residence of the Duke of Devonshire.

The house is set in expansive parkland, and backed by wooded, rocky hills rising to heather moorland and contains a unique collection of priceless paintings, furniture, Old Master drawings, neoclassical sculptures, books and other artifacts. Chatsworth has been selected as the United Kingdom’s favourite country house several times.

Outside you will find 1000 acres of gardens of stunning landscaped gardens and for kids there are no restrictions on running around through the gardens, maze, farm or adventure playground. Enjoy five miles of walks, you can even take your dog!

Popular in films and television series Chatsworth House appeared in the 2005 film adaptation of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. It represented Pemberley, Mr Darcy’s home. The house itself is named in the novel as one of the estates Elizabeth Bennet visits before arriving at Pemberley. The house was also used in The Duchess (2008), featuring Keira Knightley and Ralph Fiennes, and The Wolfman (2010), with Benicio del Toro and Anthony Hopkins.
